Oh, well . . .

. . . time got away from me and I've been unable to add more to my list of horror movies.

*Carrie

*Stars denote a favorite of mine.

This one is a classic.

Who hasn't wished they could exert a bit of revenge on school bullies that
make our lives a living hell? And all without lifting a finger? Well,
Carrie has that luxury. Unfortunately, it doesn't bode well for our star in the end. But, hey . . . she gets an A for effort.

"Exorcist III: Legion"

Well, thank goodness III was an improvement over II.

In the original movie, Father Karras threw himself down those infamous steps after summoning the demon from Regan into him to spare her. Then he dies.

Whoa!! No, he didn't!! He's been in a mental institution for years - still tormented by the demon.

"The Ring"

I'm not really a big fan of recent horror movies, but I did like this one. Even hubby thought it was good.

"The Fly"

This is another one that didn't sit too well with hubby . . . especially the part when his fingernails come off.

Scariest thing on YouTube

Now, anyone that knows me knows that the movie that scared me the most is "The Exorcist". I almost didn't watch this clip, but forced myself to do so. If you can watch this, you can watch ANYTHING.

"Child's Play" - another not-so-hot one

A friend and I saw this in the theater when it was first released. Same friend and I laughed our butts off at the scene where Chucky is running through a parking lot and the shot is from his view. Same friend and I came to the conclusion that this had to be one of the dumbest "horror" movies ever made - if you can call it that.

"Exorcist II: The Heretic" - one of the not-so-good flicks

"Pazuzu"

If I hear that name again I just may scream . . . not out of terror, but from frustration!

I SO wanted to like this movie. And I do still watch it most Halloweens if there's absolutely nothing else to do. I fully expected a sequel to the original "Exorcist" to at least be a drama and not something that I literally laugh out loud at. With big names such as Louise Fletcher and Richard Burton, you'd think this would be top-notch. Hmmmmm, not so much . . .

"Fright Night"

This is one of those campy movies - it has its suspenseful moments, but it's funny too!

"The Others" "The Sixth Sense"

These two aren't particularly scary movies, but they do have one thing in common: an unexpected twist near the end. Movies like this make me want to watch it AGAIN to try to spot any clues that lead to the ending.

Salem's Lot

This was another made-for-TV series by Stephen King from 1979. Vampires abound. I really should watch this again, as I don't remember a whole lot (get it - 'lot'?) about it. I do remember David Soul and wondering at the time how he ended up with a recording contract. But, I digress.

Pet Sematary

"Better watch out for that rooooooooaaaadd . . ."

What better way to bring back your loved ones than to bury their bods in a cemetery (excuse me - sematary) that will bring them back in fine form? The answer: it's NOT so fine form.

"Storm of the Century"

"Give me what I want, and I'll go away".

Well, it took 5 nights to get it, but by golly, there's nothing wrong with a little determination!

This was a made-for-TV movie series by Stephen King. All the characters have dark secrets they'd like to keep hidden and the villian uses these secrets to try to turn them against each other. Add to the mix a huge snow storm and well, it wasn't a good week for these peeps.

Nosferatu

This movie scared the livin' crap out of my hubby the first time he saw it as a kid (The Exorcist did it for me, but more on that later). It still gives him the willies. The weird thing is that the guy who plays the lead character didn't need much makeup supposedly . . . he naturally had that 'freaky' look about him.

Halloween means scary movies!!

As I sit here wasting time before leaving for Outback with some friends, I think about how quickly October rolled around again. October means Halloween and Halloween means scary movies! I've always loved horror movies, and I think I'll take the opportunity this month to share some of my favorites . . . and not-so-favorites.

It only makes sense to start the fun with the original "Halloween" movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence. One could easily call this a simple 'hacker' movie (of which I am not a fan), but there's something about this series that's enjoyable.

Another one I kind of like is "A Nightmare on Elm Street" - Johnny Depp's first movie. It's not what you'd call Oscar-worthy really, but it does have a different sort of plot. Freddy comes to people in their dreams, and if he kills you in the dream, well . . . you're basically SOL in your waking life, as well.

I've been a bad . . .

. . . bad girl for neglecting my blog for so long.

More to come . . . I promise!!

I've got a bad feeling . . .

. . . about this parosmia. For the last 3 days, it seems that it is slowly creeping back. It's not as potent as before, but each day it gets stronger. And this morning the 'putrid' smell of coffee woke me up.

Well, it was nice while it lasted (for 2 weeks!)

Candlebright - Stevie Nicks

This song is near the top of my list of favorite Stevie songs. This particular video was made by a buddy of mine, Joan (aka Wench!) If you get a chance, check out her YouTube Channel. She has put together a slew of Stevie videos - all of which are AWESOME.

Thanks, Wench!! You rock!!

My Parosmia/Dysosmia is gone! How Prednisone can be a wonderful thing!

My primary doctor's associate put me on a 9-day course of prednisone this month, and I am happy to say that it pretty much got rid of my 'smelly' problem. I can drink coffee now because it doesn't stink to high heaven. I can walk into a restaurant without being knocked over my the putrid smell of fried food. Car exhaust doesn't smell like my cat's litter box. Oh, happy day!

I was leery of taking prednisone because it IS a steroid and I was afraid of blowing up like a balloon. I only slightly got puffy . . . in fact, it wasn't even noticeable to anyone but me. I took 30mg for 3 days, then 20 mg for 3 days, and 10 mg for the last 3 days. It was a very short course that worked wonders for me.

Apparently, prednisone doesn't help everyone dealing with this problem. I have a friend who has been dealing with parosmia for over 3 years and has taken prednisone for quite a while. It has done nothing for her, I'm sorry to say.

But, in may case, it was a godsend.

Clogging step: Star

My new favorite combination step. Just learned it a few minutes ago and will teach the group this evening. I'll probably put it in the new piece, "Billie Jean".

This clip and MANY others are courtesy of Kerri Orthner, a clogging instructor in Alberta, Canada. Her videos are amazing and have been a TREMENDOUS help to me in the last year and a half.
